Iraq AND Afghanistan. Warning to LBO
Chris says that if Obama doesn't initiate withdrawal from Iraq, he will destroy the Democratic Party.
What few people are talking about (yet), however, is how unpopular Lyndon Baines Obama will become if he gets us stuck in Afghanistan.

Re: Milieu
In seriousness, though, this episode is a model for how to take horserace-style news hooks and use them as jumping off points into more substantive discussions of underlying issues. Well done.

Re: Iraq AND Afghanistan. Warning to LBO
Afghanistan still has the “good war” image. However, with no oil interests involved, and with the US dollar (based only upon other nations oil wealth) losing it’s value in the world economy, the impact of continuing war expenditures and the resulting mounting debt is bound to change this view prior to the election in November.

That's a good point, Trevor. As much as I'm tired of horserace conversations, I liked this one, too.

Re: Creepy X-Ray Camera Edition
Ross - Appreciated the 'american exceptionalism' thoughts you injected into the Bill Moyers Obama/Democrats in 08 commercial with Mickey Edwards. The talk itself seemed to be overweighted with slamming Bush but hey, it was Moyers. And to Moyers Mickey was the most perfect conservative this side of Bruce Fein, anti-Iraq, anti Patriot Act, Pro Gay marriage, anti NAFTA, anti big business, anti NCLB........too bad there wasn't time to agree on impeachment.
And I was surprised that Bill Clinton was cited as the first person ever being a target of destruction for a political party, particularly in a discussion which mentions Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan and Robert Bork.
Even Mickey seemed to wake up in the last ten minutes to the fact that you guys were being used and managed to get in a few nice coherant thoughts on free enterprise and small business.
I was extra-surprised when you managed to project hatefulness onto Rush Limbaugh with no prompting from Moyers at all. I heard Rush himself got a nice laugh out of that; you should call him. You might come to realize that there are conservatives who may disagree with you regarding fine-tuning

However, with no oil interests involved...
There are dead US military involved, and the country is actually more FU than Iraq. The entire economy runs on opium, there's no infrastructure, and our puppet there is photogenic and earnest but far less capable of running a failed state than Maliki in Iraq. Quagmire looming.

And this time, instead of us supplying the Afghans against the Russians, it'll be the Russians supplying them against us.

No it's the Iranians doing the supplying not the Russians. They have their own Islamist problem and are not likely to wish to see either the Taliban or Al-Qaeda achieve any manner of real success even at our expense.

Okay, but I was thinking along the lines of Russia wanting us out of the region with regard to pipeline/oil access issues. And I don't think they're crazy about us placing interceptor missiles in Poland, either.
If you don't mind, which time did you vote for Bush I, and which time for Bush II? *wink*

First 100 days crazy
If the only thing I get from Obama is some withdrawal from Iraq, Health care, and cap and trade, I don't see much point in voting for him. McCain gets me the same except for withdrawal from Iraq (and on the last point, I think both will be beholden to the "facts on the ground"). I'll vote for him anyway because I don't want more Alito's and Robert's on the SCOTUS.

uncle ebeneezer: What does it really mean?

uncle ebeneezer: Is Tom purposely trying to steer interest away from his profession?

themightypuck: Bob the Baptist comes out.

uncle ebeneezer: Will formulates a scenario where the terrorists, literally, win!

sapeye: Hmmm, is Bob guilty of serious stereotyping?

Stapler Malone: No, Bob. It’s not. Nothing ever is.

d7greene: Lawrence Lessig knows a juice-boxer when he sees one.

Toryentalist: Matt is great, Matt is great—listen and repeat.

thouartgob: Joel’s elegant refutation of Bob’s point.

themightypuck: Robert Wright, Asteroid Cowboy.

bjkeefe: Spelling is fun-damental!

nikkibong: The joy of taking stuff out of context.

bjkeefe: Who stole Matthew’s tie?

uncle ebeneezer: The Art of Subtlety.

bjkeefe: Heather slaps the entire BhTV community.

bjkeefe: Can anyone find a case where this is not ultimately Mickey's advice to Dems?

Ken Davis: The racial blind taste test.

Stapler Malone: Go forward, not backward; upward not forward; and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom....

Simon Willard: Bob steps outside himself here.

JonIrenicus: Puzzle spelled out.

uncle ebeneezer: George's response here was absolutely priceless.

graz: Bob takes Tom Jones down a peg.

bjkeefe: Entry for a video dictionary: "unflappable."

almostaquantum: Hooray: Jonah Goldberg dismisses the ticking time-bomb scenario.
