Re: UN Plaza: Keeping the Conversation Elevated (Mark Leon Goldberg & Matthew Lee)
Good diavlog, as always. I especially liked Matthew's observations early in the diavlog about the politics involved in whether or not the UN will officially speak about actions that cause slaughter of civilians.
I'm not a UN hater, but I do hate this aspect of the UN.
I'd also like to make a renewed request that M&M keep us up to date in future diavlogs on the resolution being pushed by Pakistan on behalf of the Muslim world that seeks to prohibit defamation of religion. In particular, I have seen some reports that there is talk that the resolution my be binding, not non-binding. The problem is that most of
these sources are more or less dubious. The other problem is that left-leaning publications and the MSM tend too often to shy away from doing stories that could be spun as Islam-bashing. In the end, I am left unable to evaluate this resolution situation.
If I am coming off as no better than a Lou Dobbs-style crank, I'm sorry, but I do want to make it clear that even as I dismiss the idea that a UN resolution would have any effect on free speech in the

Five days and counting
Great reporting on Sri Lanka, especially bringing out the craps shoot nature of the international response.
Comparing the situation to Israel-Gaza, however, does play into the Israeli view that everyone-is-picking-on-us-all-the-time, as they slaughter civilians in Gaza and bomb the shit out of convoys in Sudan, not to speak of appointing a racist loon (Avigdor Lieberman) Foreign Minister in the Netanyahu government.
Another breaking story that should provoke at least some whispering at the UN and a challenge for the Obama administration is this:
CNN) -- A senior Spanish judge has ordered prosecutors to investigate whether key Bush aides should be charged with crimes over the Guantanamo Bay detention center, a lawyer said Sunday.
[Baltasar] Garzon says the case can be brought under Spanish law because several Spaniards were held at Guantanamo.
Investigating magistrate Baltasar Garzon has passed a 98-page complaint to prosecutors that accuses former Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and five others of being the legal architects of system that allowed torture in violation of international law, human rights lawyer Gonzalo Boye told CNN.
Prosecutors will review the document to determine if a crime has been committed.

Another great UN episode. Awesome work guys. I feel like my brain grows by a substantial amount every time you do this.
PS Thanks Matt, for keeping the mic further from your face. Don't know if this was on purpose or due to my complaints, but the audio on your side was much better this time.

Wow, what a great diavlog. This is what BHTV is all about. Matt & Mark are so passionate about this stuff that they can just pull you in like a master storyteller. After a week where my brain has been soiled by far too much Ann Althouse, this was like a cleansing bath in dis-Ann-fectant for my BH soul. Thanks Bob, for continuing to let these guys do their thing regardless of the # of views/comments etc. --Uncle Eb

Re: UN Plaza: Keeping the Conversation Elevated (Mark Leon Goldberg & Matthew Lee)
Another highly enlightening diavlog, largely free from the tired old left/right spin that seems to permeate everything else.
Since M&M are so informed about international matters, I wonder if they could switch gears abit and have a diavlog for the upcoming G20 summit. It would be nice to have someone explain why each country takes certain stances.
On another note, I would like to again reiterate my desire for M&M to have a diavlog about the structural makeup of the UN, or at the very least, endorse a good book they feel closely matches with reality.

Well said Matthew Lee. It is quite clear without a doubt UN security council is trying to protect Sri-Lanka, despite the outrageous terror the government has unleashed on the Tamil minorities. Thank you again for exposing the UN biasness.
