Re: UN Plaza: Social Media and Crisis Situations (Mark Leon Goldberg & Patrick Meier)
The effort sounds useful, but please, Patrick: ease up on the buzzword salad. There gets to be a point where the repetitions of words like space, leverage, and empower make you sound like a leftover PR person from the dot-com boom; i.e., someone not to be taken especially seriously.
As I said, your project sounds like worthwhile. I just think you ought to learn how to talk about it better.

Re: UN Plaza: Social Media and Crisis Situations (Mark Leon Goldberg & Patrick Meier)
I think that new technologies are at a disadvantage in closed states where independent International mediaa is not allowed access.. This will lead to abuse by the intelligence agencies. What remains to be seen is what kind of crtical point will ultimately change the balance in favor of the freedom movement. The international community's condemnation and it's consequences on internal poilitics will ultimately provide better understanding. Iran stands a clear case study of the use and abuse of social media. The question is, will it prove to bring change or not?. I think the form of government that is in place and it's policies will ultimately be the deciding factor. They are incredibly brave to use it, knowing that it can be used against them.
